Biography

Born & raised on the lakes and ski hills in northern Michigan, Nissa received her B.S. in Athletic Training (2005) and M.S. in Exercise Science (2007) from Northern Michigan University, where she was also a member of the swimming & diving team competing on the 1- and 3-meter springboards. Nissa brings almost 15 years of coaching experience to CrossFit Kinesis, having worked with athletes aged 6 to 74 – including youth, high school and collegiate athletes, tactical and occupational athletes, recreational athletes, business men and women, stay-at-home parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. She also has extensive background in corrective and rehabilitative exercise and believes that restoring full function through proper mechanics and mobility is paramount to success in any physical endeavor.

Nissa’s certifications include: CrossFit Level 2, CrossFit Gymnastics, CrossFit Aerobic Capacity, USAW Sports Performance Coach, NASM-CES, and CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer. She has also served as an intern coach for the CrossFit Gymnastics seminar staff. Nissa has been CrossFitting since reading a tiny blurb about it in Men’s Health in 2010 and giving it a try it alone in the weight room of the high school she worked at. She began competing in local and regional competitions in 2013 and has competed at the Regional level three times in the Affiliate Team competition. When she’s not at the box, you’ll find Nissa spending time outside with her husband, Eric, and their two dogs, Rossi & Cocoa. She enjoys anything that involves the fresh air: skiing, biking, camping, hiking, running the dogs in the woods.

I CROSSFIT BECAUSE:
I am consistently amazed that my fitness level can continue to increase into my 30s (gasp!), well beyond what it was even as a competitive gymnast and collegiate athlete. I know that I won’t stop trying to raise the ceiling of my own fitness potential because it’s so amazing to see what our bodies are capable of.

I COACH BECAUSE:
I love helping others – of ANY & ALL backgrounds & abilities – realize their own athletic potential as a means of improving their fitness, health, wellness, and quality of life. EVERYONE is an athlete!
